Taurus integrates with Swift blockchain ledger for tokenized payments

Digital asset infrastructure provider Taurus has integrated its custody and tokenization platforms with Swift’s blockchain-based shared ledger. This connection enables financial institutions to utilize bank-issued tokenized deposits for 24/7 cross-border payments, aiming to reduce settlement latency and address fragmented liquidity pools.

The integration links Swift smart contracts with Taurus-CAPITAL and Taurus-PROTECT on clients’ permissioned blockchain infrastructure. Taurus-PROTECT manages programmable wallet and key-management functions, while Taurus-CAPITAL handles the issuance and management of tokenized money, allowing deposits to remain on the issuing bank’s balance sheet.

First client integrations are expected to begin within days, with initial distributed ledger transactions planned within weeks. For banks lacking their own blockchain systems, Taurus offers managed Hyperledger Besu infrastructure and Ethereum Virtual Machine connectivity. Swift’s ledger has already facilitated its first live cross-border transaction between Standard Chartered and HSBC.
