Tavşanlı mining sites designated as new investment area

A decision published in the Official Gazette has designated approximately 287 hectares of former mining sites in the Tavşanlı district of Kütahya as the ‘Tavşanlı Investment Area’. The move, coordinated by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, aims to transform abandoned lignite mining fields into industrial zones for factories and production facilities.

The initiative is intended to diversify the local economy by adding high-technology industrial sectors to the region's existing energy resources. To support this transition, the Ministry will coordinate expedited permit processes for new production facilities. Additionally, priority will be given to developing essential infrastructure, including roads, water, and electricity, while providing investors with easier access to financing and various incentives.

Local officials, including AK Party Kütahya Deputy Mehmet Demir and Tavşanlı Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Davut Efe, described the decision as a historic step that will turn the region into a high-value production and investment center.
