Tavernes de la Valldigna investigates suspected racist attacks

The municipality of Tavernes de la Valldigna in Valencia is facing significant social tension following two suspected racist attacks during local patron saint festivities. The incidents involved the assault of a young man of Maghrebi origin and a second attack on a young Senegalese man, the latter of whom suffered a broken jaw and required surgery.

The Guardia Civil is investigating both incidents as potential hate crimes, utilizing video footage to identify the participants. Pilar Bernabé, the Government Delegate in the Valencian Community, has condemned the violence and warned that the normalization of hate speech in political discourse contributes to such street violence.

In response to the attacks, hundreds of residents held a demonstration at the town hall to express solidarity with the victims and reject racism. Additionally, Deputy Nahuel González has submitted formal questions to the Spanish Congress to demand information on the actions taken by the Guardia Civil and local police, as well as the measures implemented to protect victims and prevent future episodes.
