Tavira attracts American retirees to the Algarve region

An American couple, Patty and Dean Hahn-Carlson, has relocated to Tavira in the Algarve region of Portugal for their retirement. After exploring various regions in northern and central Portugal, they chose Tavira due to its climate and the welcoming nature of the local community.

The couple’s decision was solidified following a visit to the city and participation in a conference in Albufeira. To secure residency, they initially sought a long-term rental, but after facing issues with mold and ventilation in several properties, they opted to purchase an apartment in the Porta Nova neighborhood. Their goal is to integrate into Portuguese culture, history, and language rather than living in isolation.
