Tavistock guided walk explores local medicinal plants
A guided walk in The Meadows, Tavistock, led by medical herbalist Zarah Hannaford, explored the historical and medicinal properties of local wild plants. Despite dry ground conditions, participants identified several species during the hour-long stroll.
Key plants identified included pineapple weed (wild chamomile), stinging nettles, hemp-agrimony, and broad leaf plantain. Hannaford also highlighted St John’s wort, noting it as an "antidepressant with incredible benefits" that must be used with caution.
While discussing the benefits of wild herbs, Hannaford warned participants about the dangers of foraging, noting that some plants found near the river, such as hemlock, are extremely poisonous.
