FBiH Tax Administration employees announce strike

Employees of the Tax Administration of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) have announced a strike following more than a year of unsuccessful negotiations with the government. The union's primary demands include salary increases and the hiring of additional staff to address a shortage of approximately 500 workers based on 2013 staffing standards.

Union representatives note that while laws and workloads have increased over the last 13 years, staffing levels have remained stagnant. They argue that the average basic salary for an inspector, which only slightly exceeds 1,500 KM, is disproportionate to the complexity and responsibility of their roles within the financial system.

A legal dispute arose when the Tax Administration management sued the union to seek an injunction against the strike. However, the court rejected the request for a temporary ban, legally allowing workers to proceed with strike activities while full court proceedings continue. While some reports indicated the strike was imminent, the Tax Administration stated that the start of the strike has been postponed for a third time pending the conclusion of the legal proceedings.
