Balkan region sees increased regulatory and criminal enforcement

Various regulatory and criminal enforcement actions are being reported across the Balkan region. In Croatia, Interior Minister Davor Božinović addressed the issue of illegal waste, describing it as a growing form of international organized crime that requires a unified European approach and updated legislative frameworks to match EU directives.

In Montenegro, maritime safety inspections conducted during the summer tourist season resulted in approximately 530,000 euros in fines following 1,500 controls. Minister Filip Radulović noted that the number of fines is significantly higher than the previous year, primarily due to speeding and vessel registration irregularities. Additionally, the Tax Administration reported collecting nearly 380 million euros in VAT, while announcing plans to combat the shadow economy through automated data exchange with accommodation platforms.

In Serbia, the Tax Administration has outlined several key deadlines for October regarding the payment of taxes, contributions, and excise duties. Meanwhile, the Croatian State Inspectorate (DIRH) reported on market inspections, noting that while some irregularities in summer sales and price labeling were found, overall compliance in certain sectors showed slight improvements compared to previous periods.
