Tax Department warns of mandatory filing even with zero tax liability
The Tax Department has issued a warning clarifying that having no tax liability to pay does not automatically exempt a taxpayer from the obligation to file tax returns. Taxpayers are advised to distinguish between “not having tax to pay” and “not being required to file a tax return,” as these are distinct legal concepts.
According to the department, tax filing requirements depend on specific types of tax, calculation methods, and the nature of the business activities or income generated. Legal exemptions from filing are strictly defined and may include cases where activities are subject to non-taxable status, certain personal income tax exemptions, or when the tax authority already possesses sufficient data to determine obligations. Taxpayers are urged to consult current legal regulations to ensure compliance and avoid errors.
