Tax law expert and academic Veysi Seviğ passes away

Prof. Dr. Veysi Seviğ, a prominent tax law expert, academic, and former bureaucrat, has passed away at the age of 87. Following a funeral service at the Ataköy 5. Kısım Mosque, he was laid to rest in the İçerenköy Family Cemetery.

Seviğ held several significant positions throughout his career, including serving as a Chief Accounting Specialist at the Ministry of Finance and working with the Economic Attaché at the Turkish Embassy in London. He contributed to the preparation of Turkey’s Five-Year Development Plans within the State Planning Organization (DPT). His advisory roles included consulting on tax laws during the National Security Council era and serving as an advisor to the Prime Ministry during the Tansu Çiller administration.

In addition to his bureaucratic career, Seviğ was a dedicated academic, teaching at Anadolu University and Marmara University. He was a co-founder of the journal ‘Vergi Dünyası’ and served as an advisor to the President of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce. For over 30 years, he was a well-known columnist specializing in tax law for publications such as Dünya and Ekonomi newspapers.
