Usurbil VTC driver arrested for sexual assault and illegal detention

A 37-year-old VTC driver has been arrested by the Ertzaintza in Usurbil, Gipuzkoa, following allegations of sexual assault and illegal detention. The incident occurred on August 26, shortly after 11:30 p.m., when a 23-year-old woman requested a ride to Usurbil.

According to the Basque Department of Security, the driver began behaving erratically upon reaching the destination, driving aimlessly, asking personal questions, and locking the vehicle doors. The driver allegedly parked the car, performed unwanted touching, kissed the woman on the face, and attempted to lunge at her.

The victim managed to alert a friend via message. A subsequent phone call from the friend startled the driver, causing him to exit the vehicle and inadvertently unlocking the doors. This allowed the woman to escape, though the suspect reportedly pursued her for a distance. The victim eventually reached a family member and filed a formal complaint at the Hernani police station. The suspect is currently in custody awaiting judicial proceedings.
