A Bogotá judge sentenced taxi driver José Eduardo Chalá Franco to 28 years and five months in prison for a traffic crash that occurred on 8 November 2025 in the San Cristóbal neighbourhood of the city’s south. The collision injured 11 pedestrians, including a child.
Investigators found that Chalá Franco was operating a public‑service vehicle with a blood‑alcohol level three times the legal limit and was exceeding the speed limit. He was charged with attempted homicide, aggravated personal injury and simple personal injury, and the court also imposed a fine of 19.42 minimum wages.
