Taxi operators clash in Tihosuco over passenger service rights

A physical altercation occurred between taxi operators in Tihosuco, Quintana Roo, due to a dispute over passenger service rights. The conflict involved members of the Sindicato de Taxistas Francisco May and the Unión Nacional de Transportistas del Cambio (UNTRAC).

The incident took place on the Felipe Carrillo Puerto-Valladolid route near a technical secondary school. According to Edwin Alfaro, secretary of UNTRAC, a UNTRAC driver was blocked by another vehicle while attempting to pick up passengers, and a delegate from the Francisco May union allegedly slapped the driver.

Currently, there is no formal agreement between the two unions regarding passenger service within Tihosuco. To avoid provocations, UNTRAC operators have reportedly agreed to only provide service on the outskirts of the community rather than at the main stop used by the Francisco May union. The dispute has caused delays and safety concerns for local commuters. The matter has been reported to the Instituto de Movilidad de Quintana Roo (INMOVEQROO), which is responsible for determining appropriate sanctions.
