Taxi professionals in Béni Mellal-Khénifra threaten protests
Taxi professionals in the Béni Mellal-Khénifra region of Morocco have threatened regional protests to address deteriorating economic and social conditions within the sector. Represented by the National Union of Taxi Professionals under the Confédération Démocratique du Travail, workers are demanding urgent solutions to several systemic issues.
A primary demand is a comprehensive and final exemption from accumulated debts and penalties owed to the National Social Security Fund. The union also called for improved social protection and health coverage to ensure the dignity of professional drivers.
Additional grievances include the need for a fairer fuel subsidy system that directly targets active professional drivers, and the formal regulation of labor contracts between drivers and operators to eliminate job insecurity. The union also expressed solidarity with drivers in Tetouan facing legal issues and those in Casablanca protesting against unregulated smart mobility applications.
