Tay ethnic community preserves Then singing and Tinh music
In the upper reaches of the Chay River in Lao Cai, the Tay ethnic community is working to preserve their traditional cultural heritage, specifically Then singing and the Tinh instrument.
Meritorious Artisan Mai Thi Hong Chan has been leading efforts to pass these traditions to younger generations. Since the beginning of 2026, she has organized four classes in Na Vai village, Luc Yen commune, with students ranging in age from 7 to 60. The classes aim to ensure that the cultural identity and musical traditions of the Tay people are not lost, fostering a sense of responsibility and love for their heritage among both youth and adults.
