Taylor Fritz defeats Darwin Blanch to advance in US Open
Taylor Fritz advanced to the second round of the US Open with a straight-sets victory over fellow American Darwin Blanch. Playing at Arthur Ashe Stadium, the ninth-seeded Fritz defeated the 18-year-old wildcard 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 in a match lasting one hour and 40 minutes.
Fritz utilized a powerful serve, recording 14 aces, to overcome the lower-ranked Blanch. Following the match, Fritz noted the pressure of expectations placed on top American players. His victory follows successful first-round performances by compatriots Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe, keeping all three in contention to end the American men's 23-year Grand Slam drought.
