Trachtenberg passed away in Manhattan on February 26, 2025, at the age of 39. The New York City Police Department responded to an unresponsive female at 1 Columbus Place, and it was later determined that her death resulted from complications related to diabetes mellitus. No criminal activity was suspected.

Trachtenberg was a well-known actress with a career spanning several decades, including roles in 'Harriet the Spy', 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer', and 'Gossip Girl'. Momsen described their friendship as a deep bond formed on the set of their hit television series, noting that Trachtenberg was ‘smart and sassy, bold and sensitive’.
