Taylor Swift sets MTV VMA record with 33 trophies
Taylor Swift set a new record at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, becoming the most awarded artist in the ceremony's history. With three new wins, her total rose to 33 trophies, surpassing Beyoncé, who previously shared the record with 30 wins.
Swift received the inaugural Artist Director Honors, a distinction decided by MTV producers and staff to recognize her significant influence on the music video format and her work both in front of and behind the camera. Her achievements include directing 18 of the 60 music videos she has been involved with over a 20-year career.
In addition to the special honor, Swift won Best Direction for ‘Opalite’ and Video of the Year for ‘The Fate of Ophelia’. The ceremony also featured the world premiere of her music video ‘Patient Zero’, starring Colin Farrell and Dakota Johnson.
