Taylor Townsend undergoes emergency appendectomy in Mexico
American tennis player Taylor Townsend underwent an emergency appendectomy in Mexico after being diagnosed with acute appendicitis. The medical emergency occurred while she was competing at the WTA 500 Guadalajara Open, just days after she won the US Open women’s doubles title alongside Katerina Siniakova.
Townsend reported that she initially mistook her symptoms for food poisoning after waking up with severe abdominal pain. Upon seeking assistance from her tournament physiotherapist and a doctor, she was directed to urgent hospital care. Townsend described the experience as frightening and isolating, particularly as she was far from home. She has since returned home to recover.
