American tennis player Taylor Townsend has withdrawn from the Guadalajara Open after undergoing emergency surgery. The decision comes shortly after her significant success at the US Open, where she completed a career Grand Slam in women's doubles alongside partner Katerina Siniakova.

Townsend was scheduled to face Marta Kostyuk in the second round of the singles tournament in Mexico but was forced to pull out following a first-round victory over Tatjana Maria. In a social media statement, Townsend expressed her heartbreak over missing the event but noted her intention to return to Guadalajara next year.

Despite this setback, Townsend and Siniakova remain confirmed for the WTA Finals. Townsend's recent focus has included improving her singles ranking, and while the surgery may impact her autumn schedule, her doubles participation in the season's conclusion is not expected to be compromised.
