TBEA to establish power equipment industrial park in Nigeria
Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has secured a commitment from Chinese manufacturer TBEA to establish a power and energy equipment industrial park in Nigeria. The agreement was reached during meetings at TBEA’s Beijing headquarters as part of a visit to engage technical partners for the Presidential Power Initiative.
The proposed industrial park aims to transform Nigeria into a manufacturing and export hub for critical power-sector equipment, reducing reliance on imports and fostering local job creation and indigenous supply chains. Tegbe emphasized the importance of attracting investors who provide technology transfer and local capacity building.
In addition to the new park, TBEA committed to accelerating ongoing transmission and distribution projects. These efforts are expected to unlock over 2,000MW of stranded capacity and improve power supply to the Federal Capital Territory. Discussions also included the feasibility of developing electric-vehicle charging infrastructure as the national grid modernizes through renewable energy and storage technologies.
