TBG proposes $286 million expansion of Bolivia–Brazil gas pipeline

Transportadora Brasileira Gasoduto Bolívia-Brasil S. A. (TBG) has requested authorization from Brazil’s National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) for a $286 million expansion of the Bolivia–Brazil Gas Pipeline (Gasbol).

The Free Allocation Project aims to resolve a physical bottleneck in the southern section of the pipeline. The plan involves relocating two compression stations and duplicating an 18-inch-diameter pipeline segment between Santa Catarina and Paraná. This expansion is intended to nearly double the receiving capacity at the Garuva entry point from 12.3 million to 23.6 million cubic meters per day.

The project responds to the declining volume of gas exports from Bolivia, which have dropped significantly since 2014 and are projected to exhaust by 2030. The infrastructure upgrade will facilitate the distribution of imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) and domestic pre-salt gas to meet regional demand.
