Tbilisi construction uncovers medieval ceramic workshop

During renovation works on Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi, construction crews discovered a medieval ceramic workshop approximately six meters underground. The excavation revealed numerous pottery fragments dating back to the 10th or 11th century.

David Lordkipanidze, director of the Georgian National Museum, noted that while Tbilisi is rich in archaeological material, this find provides a rare look into the city's history during the period of Arab rule. The artifacts suggest the site was a significant hub during the era when the city served as a key node on the Silk Road, connecting various parts of Asia and Europe.
