Tábor approves plans for new Hlinný water reservoir

The Tábor City Council has approved the project preparation for a new small water reservoir named Hlinný, located in the Turovec area. The project aims to retain water within the landscape, mitigate the effects of drought, and support the local ecosystem.

The reservoir is planned for an unnamed watercourse on municipal forest land that was nearly dry during surveys in August. Initial estimates suggest the water surface could cover up to half a hectare with a maximum depth of approximately two meters. The project is intended to slow water runoff, improve moisture conditions in the surrounding forest, and provide a habitat for amphibians, aquatic insects, and other wildlife.

City spokesperson Luboš Dvořák noted that the approval marks the start of the planning phase rather than immediate construction. The city must first complete technical documentation, obtain necessary permits and opinions, and explore potential subsidy options. The city also intends to consult with the Agency for Nature Conservation and Landscape Protection of the Czech Republic to ensure the design integrates naturally with the environment.
