WRC Rally Paraguay drives economic boom in Itapúa

The FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) is set to hold its eleventh round in the Itapúa department of Paraguay from August 27 to 30. The event features 22 special stages covering 356.04 km, with international stars such as Thierry Neuville, Sébastien Ogier, and Elfyn Evans among the participants.

The competition is driving significant economic activity in the region. In Encarnación, hotel occupancy has reached 97%, while the interior of Itapúa reports 75% occupancy, with expectations of reaching 100% during the race days. Local sectors, including gastronomy and tourism, are seeing an intense influx of national and international visitors.

To manage the increased traffic, the National Highway Patrol (Patrulla Caminera) is deploying 157 inspectors across key routes, including PY01, PY06, PY08, and D047. The operation includes 30 patrol vehicles, 20 motorcycles, and three tow trucks to ensure safety and order. Additionally, the event features a unique trophy called ‘Caskuchi,’ handcrafted by Paraguayan artisans using traditional clay techniques.
