Táchira stage collapse injures three at university event
Three people were injured on Saturday afternoon following the partial collapse of a stage during a university celebration in San Cristóbal, Táchira. The incident occurred at the Asociación de Ganaderos del Estado Táchira (Asogata) during an event for students from Santiago Mariño, Bicentenaria de Aragua, and the Universidad Nacional Experimental de los Llanos Occidentales Ezequiel Zamora (Unerg).
The structure, composed of aluminum and iron elements supported by wooden planks, collapsed amid strong wind gusts. The injured individuals suffered generalized trauma but were able to exit the debris on their own before being assisted by attendees.
Personnel from Protección Civil Táchira and the local fire department provided first aid and transported the victims to a medical center for evaluation. Risk Management officials have launched a technical investigation to determine if the collapse was caused by structural assembly failures, wind gusts, or a combination of both factors. Authorities reminded event organizers that structural evaluations are a mandatory requirement for obtaining activity authorizations to ensure public safety.
