TCL sues Samsung over alleged false advertising of Mini LED TVs

TCL North America has filed a lawsuit against Samsung Electronics America in a Los Angeles federal court, alleging the company engaged in false advertising regarding its television technology.

The complaint asserts that Samsung’s M Model televisions were marketed as featuring advanced Mini LED technology, which provides enhanced dynamic range and sharper contrast. However, TCL claims these sets actually utilize Samsung’s standard LED technology, specifically the Crystal UHD line, repackaged to undercut the prices of genuine Mini LED models.

TCL alleges that this practice misled consumers seeking higher picture quality and unfairly diverted sales from TCL’s authentic Mini LED products. According to the lawsuit, TCL had overtaken Samsung in U.S. Mini LED market share between 2023 and 2025, but Samsung’s sales of the allegedly mislabeled M Model rose nearly fourfold in less than three months.

Samsung has stated it intends to defend itself vigorously, maintaining that it stands behind the quality and accuracy of its product descriptions.
