TCL sues Samsung over Mini-LED marketing claims
TCL is initiating legal action against Samsung, alleging that the company is using the ‘Mini-LED’ marketing term deceptively. The dispute centers on Samsung’s M-series televisions, specifically models M70H, M80H, and M90H, which TCL claims are actually standard LCD-LED TVs being rebranded as Mini-LED technology.
TCL argues that these models lack the hardware advantages of true Mini-LED technology, such as full-array local dimming, which is essential for improved contrast and deeper blacks. Instead, TCL alleges that Samsung uses software-based dimming, which they claim does not provide the same technological benefits. Expert Guillaume Chansin of Counterpoint Research noted that software-based dimming is generally less effective than hardware-based local dimming solutions, particularly regarding blooming artifacts.
Samsung intends to vigorously contest these allegations in court.
