TCL unveils P80 smartphone series with NXTPaper technology

TCL has unveiled the P80 series of smartphones, including the base P80 and the high-end P80 Ultra, at IFA 2026 in Berlin. The series is notable for its NXTPaper technology, which allows the devices to function in an e-reader mode via a matte display.

The base TCL P80 features a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 3200-nit peak brightness. It is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Elite processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 5,000mAh battery with 45W fast charging. The device includes a 50-megapixel main camera and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, and it carries an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. It is priced at approximately EUR 349.

The P80 Ultra, priced starting at EUR 549, focuses on the NXTPaper experience. While reviews highlight its excellent battery life, comfortable matte screen, and effective e-reader mode, the chipset performance and software update policy have been noted as areas for improvement compared to other midrange competitors.
