TCL unveils P80 Ultra with matte Nxtpaper OLED display

TCL has introduced the P80 Ultra, its first smartphone to combine a matte Nxtpaper surface with an OLED panel. This technology aims to provide a viewing experience similar to printed paper by reducing glare and minimizing blue light emission.

The device features specialized display modes, including a Max-Ink mode that switches the screen to grayscale to mimic an e-reader. This mode is designed to reduce distractions and lower power consumption. While streaming apps and games can remain in color, other applications can be set to desaturated or grayscale modes via a dedicated physical button.

Compared to previous Nxtpaper models, the OLED integration offers deeper blacks, higher contrast, and more vibrant colors. The display also supports an Always-on-Display feature and maintains excellent visibility at wide viewing angles.
