TCL unveils SQD Mini-LED TV technology ahead of Prime Day
TCL introduced its Super Quantum Dot (SQD) Mini-LED display, a new LCD‑based technology that aims to combine the brightness of QLED with finer pixel‑level colour control. The system uses enhanced quantum‑dot particles and advanced colour filters to produce a cleaner light source and more accurate colour, while also improving local dimming and halo control.
Compared with QLED, which offers high brightness but can suffer from blooming, OLED, which provides perfect blacks but lower peak brightness, and RGB Mini‑LED, which adds colour depth at the cost of potential colour bleed, SQD Mini‑LED seeks a balanced performance for bright rooms, gaming and sports viewing. The technology does not eliminate all LCD limitations such as viewing‑angle shifts or processing artefacts, but it promises wider colour volume and more reliable colour rendering for large‑screen TVs during the upcoming Prime Day sales period.
