Técnicas Reunidas awarded green ammonia plant contract in South Africa

Técnicas Reunidas has been awarded a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract by Hive Hydrogen South Africa (HHSA) for a major green hydrogen and ammonia production facility. The project is located in the Coega Special Economic Zone, adjacent to the Port of Ngqura in Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa.

The facility is expected to produce approximately one million metric tons of green ammonia annually for both domestic and international markets. The total projected investment for the plant is estimated at $1.8 billion.

The scope of the FEED contract includes the design of hydrogen production electrolyzers, air separation units, the green ammonia production loop, a desalination plant, storage systems with a capacity exceeding 100,000 metric tons, and pipelines to the port. HHSA indicated an intention for the FEED contractor to transition into the full Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) phase following successful project approvals and a Final Investment Decision.
