Técnicas Reunidas awarded hydrogen project in Ethiopia

Spanish engineering firm Técnicas Reunidas has been selected by the Dangote Group to supply two hydrogen production reformers for a new ammonia and urea fertilizer complex in Gode, located in Ethiopia’s Somali region.

The contract includes the design, procurement, manufacturing, and FOB supply of the equipment. The reformers will have a production capacity exceeding 200,000 Nm3/h. The project will be executed by TR-Tecnical, the group’s division specializing in heat transfer equipment, with a delivery deadline of 18 months. The facility will utilize Topsoe’s technological processes.

The industrial development aims to monetize Ethiopia’s natural gas reserves to produce 3 million tons of urea annually. This initiative is intended to bolster national agricultural supply, reduce reliance on imports, and minimize foreign exchange expenditures while potentially serving neighboring markets.
