TCU approves Bahia highway concession project

The Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) has approved the project for the auction of the Rota 2 de Julho, which involves the concession of sections of the BR-324 and BR-116 highways in Bahia.

The court's decision removes a previous restriction that would have prevented ViaBahia from competing for the new administration of these roads. The company previously ceased operations on these stretches in May 2025 following an early contract termination. While the removal of the restriction allows ViaBahia to potentially participate, its involvement will depend on the final terms of the bidding notice.

The TCU also mandated several adjustments before the auction, including the requirement for the future concessionaire's budget to include duplication works on a section of the BR-116. Additionally, rules must be established to provide toll discounts in the event of delays in specific works, particularly in areas with soft soil. The project is expected to utilize a 'free flow' tolling system, allowing vehicles to pass without stopping at traditional toll plazas.
