TCU investigates North-South Railway contract and energy policies

The Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) is conducting an extraordinary session to investigate potential overpricing in an old construction contract for the North-South Railway (Ferrovia Norte-Sul).

Additionally, the court is reviewing a survey regarding public policies for biofuels and the energy transition. This assessment aims to identify federal programs related to biofuels, petroleum, natural gas, and mining to detect gaps, overlaps, or coordination failures among executing agencies. While the analysis does not mandate immediate changes to ethanol or biodiesel regulations, the findings may guide future recommendations to the Ministry of Mines and Energy.

The review of energy policies is particularly relevant to the agribusiness sector, covering the expansion of corn-based ethanol, biodiesel, biogas, and biomethane production. The court seeks to evaluate how policy stability and coordination affect investor predictability and industrial capacity.
