TDK and LG Innotek partner on advanced sensor modules for humanoid robots

TDK Corporation and LG Innotek have signed a strategic partnership to co‑develop next‑generation vision and tactile sensor modules for humanoid robots and other physical AI applications. The collaboration combines LG Innotek's high‑precision optical design and module expertise with TDK’s portfolio of inertial, position and microphone sensors. The first joint effort will focus on a new‑generation vision module that aims to surpass current market performance in visual recognition, while integrating TDK sensors to provide “eyes” and “skin” for robots.

TDK’s president and CEO Noboru Saito described the deal as an opportunity to merge core sensor technology with LG Innotek’s optical capabilities to deliver value for customers worldwide. LG Innotek CEO Moon Hyuksoo highlighted the importance of multi‑sensing in robotics and said the partnership will help shape the ecosystem of core robotic components.

The partnership is positioned within TDK’s “Body of AI” strategy, which seeks to supply the hardware – sensors, actuators and perception modules – needed to give physical form to AI systems in robotics.
