TDK develops high-capacity MLCCs for AI servers and humanoid robots

TDK has announced the development and mass production of new 10 µF, 100 V X7R multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) within its CN series. Utilizing a unique resin-electrode structure, these components in the 3225 metric case size offer high capacitance density while maintaining low resistance comparable to standard products.

The soft-termination design is intended to mitigate mechanical stress from circuit boards, enhancing reliability in environments subject to flexing or thermal cycling. TDK notes that this new model provides double the capacitance of previous versions in the series, which can potentially reduce the required component count and mounting area by half.

Targeted applications include 48 V power lines in AI servers, electric vehicles (xEVs), industrial equipment, and humanoid robots. This marks the first time TDK has explicitly identified humanoid robots as a primary target market. The company is offering two variants: an AEC-Q200 qualified automotive-grade version (CNA series) and a commercial-grade version (CNC series).
