TDP MP Chintakayala Vijay Urges Faster Trials for Politicians

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Rajya Sabha member Chintakayala Vijay raised the issue of delayed criminal cases against political leaders during a parliamentary session. He called for the government to strengthen and expand the capacity of Special CBI Courts to ensure speedy disposal of such cases, emphasizing that the rule of law must apply equally to public officials and ordinary citizens.

Vijay cited the example of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, noting that around 31 criminal cases filed since 2013 have remained pending for about 13 years, with discharge petitions heard by eight different judges due to frequent judicial transfers and a shortage of judges. He warned that prolonged delays erode public confidence in the justice system and urged immediate action to address the backlog.
