TEÇ-SEN report details monthly costs for humane living
The All Education Workers Union (TEÇ-SEN) has released its 'Human Living Index 2026' report, which distinguishes between a 'survival budget' and a 'human living budget.' The study, conducted by the union's R&D unit, calculates the monthly costs required for individuals and families to live in metropolitan areas without incurring debt, sacrificing basic needs, or abandoning social lives.
According to TEÇ-SEN President Ümit Demirel, the monthly budget required for a single person to live humanely is 125,000 lira. For a two-person household, the figure rises to 193,500 lira, while a five-person family consisting of two adults and three children requires 377,000 lira per month.
The report evaluates several key factors, including housing, healthy nutrition, transportation, healthcare, clothing, education, social life, holidays, unexpected expenses, and future security. Demirel noted that for a single person, approximately one-quarter of the budget is dedicated solely to rent, with food, utilities, and transportation consuming a significant portion of remaining income.
