Jovan Mrvaljević killed in Nikšić amid Škaljars clan violence

Jovan Mrvaljević, a high‑ranking member of the Škaljars criminal clan, was shot dead on the evening of 2 August 2026 in the Kapino Polje settlement near Nikšić, Montenegro. Police from the Regional Center for Security West, together with the State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica, launched a full investigation and are searching for the unknown shooter. Mrvaljević had previously been suspected of involvement in a 2021 plot to assassinate Serbian gangsters Veljko Belivuk and Marko Miljković. He also claimed that police officers from a special support team had tortured him in late 2020, a case that led to a trial in which the officers were acquitted in July 2026. Authorities said they are applying all legally prescribed measures to determine the circumstances of the killing and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
