Tea Tairović sparks cover song debate with release of ‘Golube’

Singer Tea Tairović has released a new version of the song ‘Golube’, sparking a debate regarding music covers and intellectual property. While the track reached the top of YouTube trending lists within six days, its release has drawn criticism from colleagues.

The song was originally recorded in 2002 by Nataša Đorđević, with lyrics and music by Petar Stokanović. Tairović stated she purchased the copyrights from the original author, and the new version features a different arrangement by Marko Gluhaković and Jan Borić.

The controversy intensified when Saška Karan publicly criticized Tairović on social media, arguing that the singer should explicitly label such tracks as covers rather than presenting them as original works. Nataša Đorđević shared the criticism on her own profile, further fueling the discussion on the ethics of re-recording older hits.
