Teacher arrested in Izmir for exam cheating with hidden cameras

A teacher in the Konak district of Izmir has been detained after police discovered a sophisticated cheating apparatus inside a bag left at Alsancak Station. The bag was initially reported as abandoned, prompting a police investigation.

Upon inspection, authorities found a variety of technical equipment, including three cameras concealed inside buttons, a laptop, two smartphones, two Wi-Fi routers, wireless headphones, and various connectivity cables. The setup was described as a “copy manufacturing workshop” designed for academic dishonesty.

When the owner, 41-year-old Mehmet A., arrived at the station to claim the bag, he was intercepted by police. Identification revealed he is a teacher employed by the Ministry of National Education. During initial questioning, Mehmet A. confessed to using the devices to transmit exam questions externally and relay answers back to individuals inside examination halls. He faces charges for violating Law No. 6114 regarding ÖSYM regulations.
