Teacher dies of electrocution during Independence Day preparations in Odisha

A teacher died and several students were injured following an electrocution accident during Independence Day preparations at a private school in the Maitapur area of Balasore, Odisha.

The deceased, identified as sports teacher Priyabrata Behera, was attempting to install an iron pipe to serve as a flagpole. During the process, the pipe lost balance and came into contact with overhead power lines. Behera was rushed to the Simulia Community Health Centre and later transferred to the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Three to four students who were assisting with the installation were also injured in the incident. They were taken to Simulia Hospital for medical treatment, with some reportedly being discharged after their conditions improved. The father of the deceased expressed distress, noting that his son had been called into work despite initial reluctance.
