Teacher in Sumenep investigated for allegedly abusing eight students

A 43-year-old elementary school teacher, identified by the initials MR, is under investigation for the alleged sexual abuse of students in Arjasa District on Kangean Island, Sumenep Regency.

While initial reports focused on a single underage victim who escaped and reported the incident to parents, legal counsel Ach Syaifur Rizal has revealed that the number of victims is likely eight. The abuse is reported to have occurred over a period of four to five years. The victims, who have since graduated and moved on to junior and senior high school, only recently came forward following the initial report.

Police have secured evidence and are coordinating with the Women and Child Protection Unit of the Sumenep Police to support the investigation and assist the victims. The suspect faces charges under the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) regarding sexual violence.
