Varanasi teacher accused of burning 5‑year‑old's private part with hot knife

In the Akatha area of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, a five‑year‑old nursery student allegedly urinated in his pants after being denied permission to use the toilet. The child's father, lawyer Kesari Jaiswal, says teacher Preeti Kushwaha took the child to another room, heated a knife on a gas stove and burned his private parts. Jaiswal filed a complaint at the Lalpur‑Pandeypur police station, resulting in an FIR against Kushwaha, the school principal and management under sections 115(2), 118(1) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police have opened an investigation; a medical report from DDU District Hospital did not note any burn injury. Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav publicly condemned the incident, calling it extremely serious. The case has drawn widespread outrage in the region and prompted calls for stronger child‑protection measures in schools.
