Teacher ordered to pay €270,000 for incompatible Sicilian business

The Court of Auditors of Lombardy has ordered a teacher serving in Calolziocorte to pay over 270,000 euros in damages to the state. The ruling stems from an incompatible business activity conducted in Sicily between 2016 and 2024.

While employed at a public school in the Lecco area, the teacher maintained ownership of a tourism business in Realmonte, near Agrigento. The enterprise, which began in the agricultural sector, expanded to include hospitality, guest houses, catering, and banqueting services.

The court rejected the defense's argument that a general power of attorney for business management exempted the teacher from incompatibility rules. Judges ruled that delegating management did not change her status as the business owner. While the court found no evidence of intent, it determined the teacher acted with gross negligence.
