Teacher Rob Smith's 80th Birthday Celebrated in Batemans Bay

Former students of Batemans Bay Public School are gathering to honor their long‑time teacher Rob Smith on his 80th birthday. Organiser Sharon Holland and other alumni have arranged a celebration for 22 August at the Steampacket Hotel in nearby Nelligen.

The event highlights Smith’s lasting impact, with former pupil Dave Ferrante, now a professional musician, crediting the teacher for encouraging his musical career. Community friend Sammy Pickett, who never attended his class, also praised Smith as a father‑figure and will attend the tribute.

Smith expressed delight at the plans, thanking the women who coordinated the gathering and the many former students expected to join.
