Teacher testifies in court regarding death of 14-year-old Stylianos

During a hearing at the Nicosia District Court regarding the 2019 death of a 14-year-old boy named Stylianos, a former teacher testified about reports of domestic violence. The teacher, who taught the boy in the first grade during the 2010-2011 school year, stated that she reported all information provided by the child to the school administration and that the state failed to protect him.

The teacher testified that the child exhibited behavioral fluctuations and difficulty concentrating due to his family situation. She also referenced physical marks, including a head injury and a burn mark, which the child claimed was caused by his father extinguishing a cigarette on him. While the defense lawyer argued these were the teacher's personal pedagogical observations rather than confirmed facts, the teacher maintained she did not hide any information and sought to provide a complete account during this testimony.

Regarding discrepancies between her current testimony and her 2020 statement, the teacher explained that previous records were kept in a laconic manner and that she wished to use this opportunity to speak more accurately on behalf of her former student.
