Teacher unions demand infrastructure funds and pension reforms in Argentina and Peru
In Argentina, the Agmer teachers' union has called for an emergency fund to address deteriorating school infrastructure in Entre Ríos. During a meeting with the General Council of Education (CGE), union representatives highlighted urgent needs caused by adverse weather, such as roof collapses and electrical issues. They are seeking dedicated funding to manage repairs without delays, particularly in light of the El Niño phenomenon.
In Peru, retired teachers in Puno are protesting to demand the regulation of Law No. 32581, which aims to provide dignified pensions. Demonstrators are seeking to increase monthly pensions from current levels of 600–900 soles to 3,500 soles to match active teachers' salaries. The union has proposed a progressive financing plan totaling approximately 6 billion soles to be implemented in three stages through 2027 to avoid abrupt fiscal impacts.
