Teachers at Baccarini school in Russi hold white strike

Teachers at the Baccarini middle school in Russi, Italy, have initiated a ‘white strike’ to protest working conditions and demand changes from the Ministry. The protest involves refusing to participate in extracurricular activities, such as field trips, educational outings, and non-mandatory projects, while maintaining core orientation and citizenship education programs.

Key demands from the teaching staff include formal recognition of additional work, meal vouchers, salary adjustments to account for inflation and European standards, and a revision of laws regarding criminal liability during school trips.

A meeting between the teachers, school principal Lucia Pommella, and Mayor Valentina Palli ended without a resolution. Mayor Palli offered to provide municipal facilities for organizing outings and to deploy municipal-funded educators to assist with student supervision. However, teachers rejected these proposals, stating they do not address the core issues of unpaid labor and the legal responsibilities that remain with the instructors.
