Teachers' Day observations in Brazil and Portugal

In Fortaleza, Brazil, the third volume of the book series ‘Coisas de sala de aula & outras crônicas’ will be released at the Instituto Federal do Ceará (IFCE) to coincide with Teachers' Day. The work features 24 chronicles written by Ceará-based teachers and authors Alan Torres, André Araújo, and Antônio Ortiz. The collection explores themes such as teacher-student relationships, bullying, technology, and the daily challenges of the profession, while also touching on personal experiences like travel and local life in Fortaleza.

In Portugal, the significance of the teaching profession is highlighted in observance of World Teachers' Day, which marks 60 years of the UNESCO and International Labour Organization recommendation regarding the status of teachers. Discussions emphasize the foundational role of educators in national development, noting that literacy rates in Portugal improved from 25% illiteracy in 1970 to 3% in 2021. However, challenges remain, as only 9% of secondary school teachers in Portugal feel their profession is valued by society.
